A couple years ago I attempted to knit socks. Warning! Once you've accomplished this, you're hooked. Now I like to have a pair of socks on my knitting needles all the time. There are the most wonderful, colorful, funky sock yarns. Visit any higher-end yarn store and you'll be amazed at the wonderful fibers and self-striping patterns. They are expensive but so wonderful to knit and wear.

I'm in the middle of a pair right now that has wonderful stripes of blues and grays. I worked on them during a recent flight to Cancun and then again on the flight home. Socks are such a nice, portable project to take along, and yes, you can bring knitting needles on an airplane.

We Minnesotans need to find a way to survive the winter. I suggest two methods: Learn to knit socks and, in February, fly to Cancun!

Socks are underrated...

I love socks, especially when it's cold out. I'd wear socks with all shoes: sandals, heels and high-tops, if it was fashionably acceptable. I even wear socks to bed and usually ask for them each year for gifts. Anyway, I think socks make a great gift for all and am glad to see some standout socks!
