I am thinking about happy things: sweet treats, hand sewn aprons, and goats. After spending the day at Moses, an organic farming conference, my head is buzzing and dreaming. I hope to make more time for sewing what I love, eating what is yummy, and dream about animals I would like to have nibbling on the farm. Farm and dirt but fashion and art too please!
My love for my tomatoes has swooned and swayed. With a large smile and happy heart I finally have some ripe heirloom treats. I have especially enjoyed that my first found beauty looks like a giant yellow heart. I have not been able to eat it yet. It has moved around my kitchen for many photo shoots and currently is resting on my stove with an orange pot holder as a cozy nest. I think often of recipes that would really benefit from it but I can not commit. Most likely a pizza with rosemary and goat cheese...
I am thinking about growing hope and poetry in my garden. Every morning I greet my plants and find a spot I can create a tiny pocket. Some days I will look at a plant and worry, "Oh no what is this?" I had a tough little spell with my cucumbers. First poor germination, then bugs, and a most sensitive root system on one which kept it wilting. Every day I nurse it I go from "Great... it's gone to...Hey, look at you so spritely!" It is such an intense relationship to have with your garden! I feel the need to weed but I actually think it would be better to read poetry to my plants.
Yesterday in a flurry I applied hay to my heirloom tomatoes while wearing a sweet little houndstooth jacket. I wonder if my ancestors looked down on me with smile or a chuckle. I enjoyed every moment and think all fashion should originate from the farm. Sometimes I dream of fashion shoots with a bouquet of broccoli or I look at the color swirl of a swiss chard leaf and think of sewing a skirt. Life can be long and beautiful why not fill it with as many high fashion farming moments as possible!
Basil is such a wonderful herb to stroll through after a gentle rain. The magical aroma floats and I dream of making a tea with its leaves and a drop of honey. I adore plant collections and have a lovely basil patch this year. My favorites include: cinnamon, lemon, lime, and dark opal. As I move inwards to my design studio I finish my Half Moon Purse and begin working on a knitting needle tote and an art deco clutch. When fashion tires I find myself back in the garden.
